Additional Information Notes: Boyd 14: 652-54. Jefferson alludes to stories of the worsening insanity of George III ("were the king as well"), which he disbelieves. The bread shortages mentioned above worsened in the later Spring and caused unrest and marches, despite the crown's attempt to fix prices and ban hoarding. The pound sign (#) indicates Jefferson's use of "LT" for livre tournois. The livre tournois ("of Tours") was worth about 19 cents when replaced in 1795 by the Franc. Mark M.
