Content Description Pewter medical syringe with tubular body 3 5/16" long x 3/4" diameter, bottom of tube is rounded with small hole in the center surrounded by five smaller holes arranged in a star-like pattern, opposite end of tube is threaded with a 1" diameter x 3/8" thick screw-on cap, mounted through a hole in the center of the cap is a pewter plunger 4 1/8" long with an oval finger ring 1 3/16" long x 15/16" high, the opposite end of plunger has two flat pewter discs placed 3/8" apart with intervening space wrapped with cording, shaft measures 2 3/8" long between top disc and finger ring, shaft is slightly bent; syringe measures 4 1/2" long with plunger closed and 6 7/8" long when fully extended; outer surface of tube is pitted with some surface loss around the holes, bottom edge of cap is chipped, finger ring is slightly misshaped on one end and scarred; syringe was recovered from a Confederate hospital site at Fredericksburg, VA.
