Resolution by the Massachusetts State Senate regarding taxes paid on the Waldo patent. States that while Knox is only in possession of about one third the land on the patent he is being assessed taxes for the entire property. Decrees that all taxes be suspended until the next month when Treasurer and others can decide how taxes should best be assessed on the land. Signed by Adams, Edward H. Rollins, the Speaker of the Massachusetts Senate, and John Avery, the Junior Secretary of the State Senate.

Show/hide Download PDF Commonwealth of Massachusetts In Senate February 18th. 1794 On the petition of Henry Knox and others heirs and representatives of heirs of Brigadier Waldo deceasd setting forth that certain taxes have been assessed by the General Court on the Muscongus or Waldo patent since the year 1786 that the said patent is held in three principal divisions . . to wit the Lincolnshire company or twenty associates so called the company of the ten original proprietors and the heirs of said Waldo on whom their are many subordinate claims and that the taxes designd for the whole patent are assessed on the said heirs notwithstanding they are in possession of not much more than one third thereof and praying for relief . . Resolved that all further measures for collecting and inforcing the payment of said taxes be suspended untill the third Wednesday of the next sitting of the General Court . . and the Treasurer of the Commonwealth and all others concer'nd are requird [sic] to govern themselves accordingly ..And the petitioners are hereby requird to leave with the respective Clerks of the said companys attested copies of their said petition and this resolve thereon four weeks previous to the said third Wednesday notifying the said companys to appear on that day and shew cause if any they have why they should not be holden to pay their just proportions of the aforesaid taxes…Sent down for concurrence - Samuel Phillips.
