Content Description Receipt for Town of Newburyport from "The State of the Massachusetts Bay" to be paid to Jonathan Dole for expenses incurred while caring for Enoch Wing when he had the smallpox. Singed by Moses Little, Samuel Tufts and Jonathan Titcomb. Nicholas Pike signs the bottom, dated 22 January 1779, stating that the document was sworn to before him by the selectmen. A separate page is attached certifying that Enoch Wing died of the smallpox, and that the selectmen of Newburyport provided for his care. Signed by Colonel Jonathan Allen as an agent of the state.

Additional Information Enoch Wing was a mate on a Continental schooner commanded by Joshua Wing. He died of smallpox. Jonathan Titcomb was a selectman for Newburyport, and a Brigadier General in the Massachusetts Militia.
