Additional Information | During the Civil War, Raphael Semmes (1809-1877) commanded the Confederate vessels "Sumpter" and "Alabama." David Conner assumed control of the West Indian and Home (United States) naval squadrons in 1843. Active in the Mexican War, Connor served as Commodore until the late 1840s. |
