Content Description | First nine pages contain letters to and from Archer (1856/5/19-1857/9/19). Log entries begin on 19 May 1856 and include his voyage aboard the U.S.S. Roanoke (1857/4/17 - 1857/9/16) and his cruise to the East Indies aboard the U.S.S. Powhatan (1857/12/7 - 1858/12/15). A list of letters written and received appears toward the end of the book. Burgundy leather spine; tan, blue and red dotted boards. The Opium Wars took place 1839-1842 and 1856-1860, both ending with treaties that opened certain Chinese ports to foreign trade.
