[draft] New London 11 Septr. 1776 12 at Night Dear Sir Since I rcd your last my engagements have been such out of town that I've missed two Posts- have been laying out Works Saybrook &c &c I've a thousand things to say to you which I must refer to my next when I intend writing you fully upon writing to Philadelphia- I am really pleased that the Artillery play'd their part so well upon the ship coming up the East River- it gives me a sensible pleasure when [inserted: those in] your department act with singular propriety- This Evening I hoped would have brought me somthing [sic] fm you of the particulars of the late engagement- We are dayly [receiving] Inhabitants & Stock fm L Island so that the Enemy will be disappointed in some measure- & very soon I trust totally routed- I am exceeding glad G Greene is upon recovery pray assure him that I wish him [inserted: health] and happiness & pray his acceptance of my best wishes- I see in that Gentleman so much my late Friend Dr. Warren that I cannot but feel a peculiar regard for him-That you may be favord with the divine protection prays your friend &c Josi Waters Jun.r [2] Have you been inform'd that the following Gentlemen have by the Town of Boston been recommended for field officers of that Reg.t H.
