Additional Information William Claflin was the Governor of Massachusetts. John M. Morris was a minister, military chaplain, newspaper editor, legislative clerk for Congress. Joseph R. Hawley was a politician, newspaper editor, and general. He served as a Union General in the Civil War, then as Governor of Connecticut from 1866-1867, later Congressman and Senator from Connecticut.
