Additional Information Gaines served in the War of 1812, the Mexican War, and as Governor of the Oregon Territory 1850 to 1853. Mason served at various political posts, including United States Secretary of the Navy 1844-1845 and 1846-1849, and United States Attorney General 1845-1846. Robert Perkins Letcher served as Governor of Kentucky 1840-1844.
