Content Description | sister [Sophia Parrott] He is glad that she is improving. Eight to ten thousand men are building five forts and when they are finished "this place will be the strongest Fortified p[l]ace in Tenn[essee]." There are skirmishes nearly every day. A shell came very close to taking his head off but he heard it coming in time to jump off his horse and the shell passed across his saddle. He has had command of the regiment since the battle of 31 December and has heard from some of his men taken prisoner then. |
