| Additional Information | Gates served as President of the Board of War from 19 January 1787 to 15 April 1787. Congress organized the board in 1776 to manage the army. Gates' involvement with the Conway Cabal (a conspiracy to replace Washington as Commander in Chief of the Army with Gates) lead to Gates' removal from the board. |
