Content Description	Discusses Turner's observations regarding a memorial written by Major Pierre Charles L'Enfant, apparently about settling a financial claim he has with the Society of the Cincinnati members. May be referring to L'Enfant's purchase of extra Society badges: the previous year, L'Enfant purchased extra badges and paid for them with credit, but the badges are proving too expensive and are not selling. Transcript	Show/hide Download PDF [draft] New York 20 July 1787 Dear Sir a variety of business has hitherto prevented the acknowledgement of your favor of the 8th instant Your observations, on Major L Enfants memorial appear to be well founded - But I apprehend the Society in exonerating themselves from all possible Claims of Mr L had it in idea to illustrate their generosity more than the [struck: justice] legality of all the claims If it should even now appear that there were some mistatements, I do not see how it can be well rectified, without involving disputes that [strikeout] [inserted: might] injure [struck: the society] [inserted: the Society] [struck sentence] I confess for one I am [willing the matter] should [issue] agreeably to the [Train] it is now in. But it may be highly proper [2] every fact of the nature of these you state shall be authenticated - I am Dear Sir Your very obednt hum Servt H Knox Major Turner -
