Content Description Reports that Captain James Lees, who served under Varnum in "the gallant defence of [Mud] Island on the delaware," asked Knox to request from Varnum a certificate of Lees' eye injury. Knox asks Varnum to draft and sign a statement related to Lees' injury, and to obtain Major Thayer's signature (possibly Simeon Thayer).
