Content Description | Writes to his mother regarding the unreliability of the mail. Reminds her that the army issues plenty of socks but no maple sugar. Encloses a photograph of boys with whom he came to Europe (not included). Describes his trip to England and Scotland. In response to his father's inquiry, Hopkins writes that the only bird he can identify is the French variety of crow which, he says, speaks French as is does not "caw" like its American counterpart. Includes his Thanksgiving Day menu. Written on Salvation Army Hostels letterhead. |

Additional Information | While overseas, Private Hopkins was in Company D, 21st Engineers, American Expeditionary Forces. Once he returned, he joined Company 5, 153rd Depot Brigade, at Camp Dix, New Jersey. Laurence Hopkins is his brother. |
