Content Description | Writes to his mother that he received her letter of 11 January and remarks at the speedy delivery. Discusses the good price of corn and hopes his parents treat themselves to new furniture, a gesture he and his siblings should have extended before the war. Reflects on past behavior at home and whether Mrs. Barton has received the gifts her sent her. Directs the letter to Ed (possibly a brother) and describes the weight and deadliness of the machine guns. Mentions that the local boys that followed Barton to Europe have been sent home and expects to return soon. Hopes to get home before his brother Harley. Encloses a letter from the King of England (not included). Asks his mother to tell Dorothy (possibly a girlfriend) he longs to see her again. Written on YMCA American Expeditionary Force letterhead. |
