Washington Jan. 18 '48 I love you for many reasons, Dear Mrs. Paige, but for none more, than for the interest you constantly take, in all things which affect my reputation. Neither my wife, nor my children, nor any one else can manifest more concern for me, in this respect, than you have always exhibited. I needing hardly say, that I feel deeply moved, by such proof of affection, & such [2] & such fidelity of friendship. Nor ought I to omit to say, how conscious I am that Mr. Paige's brotherly feelings are always alive, on the same subject. In all my life, I have known him to be [unconcerned], in any thing relating to my character & reputation. I am sure, Dear Mrs. Paige, that you both have great reason to be loved, not only by me, but also by all those [3] those who are attached to me, now, or who may remember me hereafter; I am sure you are so loved, by us all, most fervently & tenderly. Horace [Binney] Wallace is the son of this late John B. Wallace Esq. of Phila an early, constant & attached friend of mine, for many years. Mrs. Wallace, now living is the like of Mr. Binney, & a woman of great respectability & strength [4] of character. I have heard very good accounts of Mr. H. B.
