Transcript	Show/hide Philaa. Oct. 2. '44 Dear Harriette I am alive, here, in this great City, & pretty well; & having your husband to take care of me, think myself very well off. I mean to keep him. I hope a little change will do him no harm, & his company does me great good - I am thinking of making a sudden push into the Mining District, & hope he will go with me. - We were last Eve' -after the great meeting was over -[2] at a small party, at the Mayors, Mr Scott's - I would not write today too much about it, but I saw Mr P. in earnest conversation with the two prettiest ladies there, successively. We both came away, however, in good time, & were in bed a little after 10 oClock - This day, I rest, as far as mankind well let me. But nothing exceeds the political bustle & [3] excitement, which exists here abouts, & some one is sure to be in, all the time. The weather is fine. Mr. P. is gone out, on his affairs; & now that the room happens to be clear, I close this, with a hearty "Good bye"! - & set forth to enjoy the Sun, & look at Philaa.. - Yrs. Affectionately D.
