Title Charles G. Horsfall to "my dear loved ones all" regarding his travels on a ship and his children's achievements and activities
Date 17 February 1906
Author Horsfall, Charles G. (fl. 1900-1910)
Document Type Correspondence
Content Description The rolling of the ship makes it difficult for him to write and to sleep at night. The boat stopped at Sitka, home to the Executive Mansion, Juneau, Yakutat, and Kayak island. [continued on 2/20] He arrived in Valdez the day before and had "never felt so bum after a sea voyage." He has abandoned the idea of a trip into the interior. He has heard tales of families being forced to burn their furniture for heat when they cannot go outside but is skeptical. He congratulates Owen on his progress at the Y.M.C.A., is pleased Carol liked her gift, and tells Ed to concentrate on his studies. He is glad the children miss him and he says they are "just the 'pippins." [continued on 2/21] He finds Valdez to be "like living in a civilized country."
