Content Description | Written by Major General Ward as commander of the Eastern Department (he was succeeded by Major General William Heath in March 1777) to Ebenezer Hancock as Deputy Paymaster General of U.S. forces. Order to pay Thomas Urann, Director of the Carpenter, forty six pounds and ten shilling, equal to 155 dollars, which was October's pay for him and the carpenters under him. On verso is breakdown of the pay for the carpenters. Urann made 6 pounds as foreman and the 9 "artificers" under him made 4 pounds 10 shillings each. Countersigned to by Thomas Urann that he received the money. |
