| Content Description | Full title: "Lloyd's New Political Chart, 1861. With a Map of the United States, Showing the Free States, Border Slave States, Cotton States, and Territories, in Different Colors." Compiled and published by H.H. Lloyd & Co.'s Agents' General Depot for Books, Maps, and Stationary Packages, 25 Howard Street in New York. Eclectic item composed of map, wood-cut portraits, biographies and statistics. Topped with a banner with "The National Political Chart," at the top. Underneath the banner is an image of George Washington flanked on the left by an image of the Seal of the U.S. and on the right by the seeing eye of the pyramid. Below Washington is an image of a bearded Abraham Lincoln, flanked on the left by Lieutenant General Winfield Scott and on right by Major Robert Anderson -- there are brief biographies below each image. Below Lincoln is an image of the 7 members of his cabinet: Sec. of Interior Caleb B. Smith, Postmaster-General Montgomery Blair, Sec. of War Simon Cameron, Sec. of State W.H. Seward, Sec. of Navy Gideon Welles, Attorney General Edward Bates, Sec. of Treasury Salmon P. Chase. Biographies for each are provided. Below cabinet is a map of the U.S. divided into North, South, Border States, and Territories by different colors (both Virginia and Arkansas are included in the border states). To the left of the map is an image of Major General John E. Wool and to the right is an image of Lieutenant Slemmer (who seized Fort Pickens in Pensacola Harbor at the opening of the war).
