My reverend Mother This goes with Cousin Vetch which I hope will find you healthy and also my revered father as it is now it griefves me much that it turns out so badlyx with the session of the assembly before the ships arrived the Governor said that they would not sit before the fall then I hoped that mother would come down but now I do not expect it knowing from father’s letter that there is so much work at the manor I am very glad that father comes down and hope that he will take his lodging with us like before in the hope that the Allmighty who has gotten me me this far will strengthen me and help me through the hours of my need and hope that mother will allow cousin Vetch to come down with father even if it was before that time it would oblige me I thank you for the fresh butter please greet father and mother from my husband and from your dutiful daughter to command Joanna van Horne (April 21 1724)
