[draft] New York 23d Augt 1792 I have received my Lucys letter, of the 16th instant, and also Mrs Fluckers of the same date, for both of which I am very grateful I have been agitating and negociating, hitherto without any thing being positively affected, although there are some prospects of being able to carry the purchase through with a strong hand. I have received an express from the President which ought to have carried [2] [inserted: my letter yesterday] but the thing was to critical here to permit me to leave it - I hope in God no ill effects will arise I do not like Henrys returning without leave. I hope he is again gone back, and I farther hope you will induce him to stay there as you once proposed for a year or two.
