Show/hide Download PDF [draft] NYork Monday morng July 29 1776 My dear Lucy I received yours by a Mr Hart which to be sure was the [first] scrap you ever gave me - [struck: and] by Saml and Mr Tracy for all which I wish I had it in my power fully to express my love and thanks - I am very glad you have found Lodgings to your liking you have a had a deal of trouble in your little Journey I pray you may never be oblig'd to travel so far again without having your [earthly] [protector] with you - [struck: There is something] The happiness I feel when I take a pen to write You I should find difficult to describe - indeed my dear I love you exceedingly, you mention you are much offended with Mrs G. I dont know your reason, beware of busy bodies, they are the greatest pests of society. I have a great Respect and friendship for her husband it is impossible it should mature if you and she are at variance therefore for the sake of me smother any little matter which you may think an Injury - I have no opinion of your informer - I hope the boy will suit, and I hope he will take good care of your Horses - as to your flattering your[self] we shall have no battle I know not how well grounded that may be - I have deferred writing so long that the post is going I long to see you and my lovely daughter Adeiu my dearest Henry Knox [address leaf] Mrs. Lucy Knox N Haven [docket] Genl Knox July 1776
