Title Henry Jackson to Henry Knox about his financial and legal affairs
Date 20 December 1789
Author Jackson, Henry (1747-1809)
Recipient Knox, Henry
Document Type Correspondence; Business and financial document; Legal document
Content Description Discusses the financial affairs of a Mr. Pemberton, noting that Pemberton's estate is in the hands of overseers (of Boston), and the interest was to be given to the relief of "such poor persons as had formerly lived in genteel life..." Notes that the demand against their acquaintance, a Mr. F., is thus in the hands of the overseers. Discusses additional financial matters. Refers to a proposal placed before Mr. [James] Bowdoin, noting that Jackson did everything in his power not to leave the papers with Bowdoin. Promises to put the proposal before [John] Pitts when he returns to town, but adds that Knox has little hope of success unless he agrees to furnish each creditor with a copy of the proposal. Notes, "for my own part I dislike leaving with [the] papers." Notes that General Webb and Doctor Andrew [Craigie] are both at Boston, and are engaged in financial speculation. Gives the details of the wedding of Lucy's friend Charlotte.
