Content Description Terrible Losses of the War, Fort Sumter. The story is told of a Methodist minister visiting slaves in their cabins and discovers how one woman has learned to read the Bible and gathering snakes with another slave. An article discusses the importance of writing. An open letter to soldiers encourages them to be patient and strong. Resolutions memorializing certain Baptist leaders are included. An article praises motherhood and another examines parental duty.
