Content Description Giddings attacks Polk's declaration of war against Mexico, the frivolous spending of the public treasury, and the dubious means by which soldiers are enlisted. Giddings believes in the defense of America and the support of its military, but does not think that the founding fathers "anticipated the hostile invasion of other countries by us."
