Thursday 2 oclock My Dear Harriette We were all quite distressed, this mor[n]i[n]g, by the receipt of your letter, & the two notes from Mary [Blockford]; altho. the latter of them had soo-thing & consolation mes[sag]es it is, indeed, a dreadful accident to Mr Blockford, & a wonderful escape he had from [worse] evils. It shocked me greatly; the more, for having been [2] been in similar peril, myself. It is a serious inconvenience to me, as it may postpone, or [embarrass] my movement [society]. But all that I do not think of. His pain & confinement are the serious evils; yet, even for these, there is consolation in thirty of his Providential escape, with life. I hope you & Caroline have already been out to see him. If not, [pray] do so, the [3] the first fair morning. We expected Mr B. here this morig. I went early [struck: this] to the market, saying to Mrs. W.
