Content Description Model 1851 Colt Navy Revolver, 4th Model; .36 caliber, 6-shot; 7 1/2" long octagonal iron barrel with a brass teat sight atop the muzzle, seven rifling grooves are visible in the bore; top of barrel is stamped "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY", a hinged casehardened loading lever is mounted through the front of the barrel lug and under the barrel, top of lever is stamped "72355", the underside of the barrel lug is stamped "72355"; casehardened frame is stamped "COLTS/ PATENT/ U.S." (faint) on the left side below the cylinder and "72355" on the underside adjacent to the barrel lug; casehardened hammer with checkered spur; 6-shot cylinder measures 1 11/16" long x 1 1/2" in diameter, rear of the cylinder is notched for nipples, the side of the cylinder is stamped "COLTS PATENT NO. 72355" (faint except for number), cylinder is engraved with a Texas-Mexico naval battle scene labeled "ENGAGED 16 MAY 1843" (not visible); oval brass trigger guard is stamped "72355" forward of the bow and "M" on the left side at the rear, the front of the bow is stamped with a tiny "K" on the left side, the guard and front gripstrap are all one piece, one-piece brass butt and back strap, butt strap is stamped "72355" to rear of the screw; walnut grips, the lower half of the left grip is stamped with an oblong inspector's cartouche (illegible); the barrel and cylinder are missing 99.9% of the original bluing; overall length is 13 1/8"; small patch of bluing around barrel wedge on left side, cylinder has some light pitting, brass has fine scratches on most surfaces esp. butt around serial number, plier teeth marks on both sides of brass trigger guard to the rear of the bow, grips are scratched with a small chip at the front of the right grip at the bottom.
