Additional Information Julia Ward Howe published poetry, plays and travel books, as well as many articles. She was active with the Sanitary Commission and, as a result of her work with Union Troops, the poem "Battle Hymn of the Republic" was published first in February 1862 in the Atlantic Monthly.
