Additional Information In 1830, Heard emigrated to Texas, where he was granted a league and a labor in Stephen F. Austin's colony. He commanded a volunteer regiment at the Battle of San Jacinto. In 1840, he was elected chief justice of Wharton County and accompanied Colonel John H. Moore's expedition against the Indians of the upper Colorado River.
