First edition copy (misspelled "Frist Edition" on the cover page). Dedicated to Lafayette Guild and Joseph P. Logan, both surgeons in the Confederate Army. Index at front lists diseases and other medical problems and procedures that are written about, including amputation, dislocations, fractures, and bullet and sword wounds, etc. Appendix at rear lists charts of various operations undertaken and number of deaths, etc. Inscribed on inside front cover by C. W. Heartt to Dr. F. J. Heywood, Jr. No illustrations.
