Governor taken at the last election in this State some questions arose which were submitted to the consideration of Mr. King and myself - Herewith will be delivered to you the state of the case together with our different opinions - The Persons appointed to canvass the votes rejected the ballots of the Counties of Otsego and Tioga in conformity with my advice; those of Clinton County were also rejected, because in the opinion of the Canvassers there was not proper and satisfactory evidence of the deputation - These decisions, and of course my opinion, have been the subject of some aninadversion in this state and, I am told, in [2] yours also, but no attempt has yet been made to answer the reasons and authorities upon which they are founded. ~ I am nevertheless very desirous of receiving the sentiments of a few of the most eminent Lawyers in different states upon these questions and should be particularly flattered by Yours ~ Let me entreat you to peruse the law and Statement of the case, and to have the goodness to forward me [struck: several of the] your written opinion - several of the most respectable characters in the southern states have done me this favor and I trust you will not refuse me ~ You must consider this as a professional matter the Bearer will pay your demand for your Opinion ~ If I have any claims on the score of friendship they will be abundantly satisfied by your consent to undertake this trouble I am with great respect and Esteem Your Most Obed.Humbsert AaronBurr [3] Should you not forward the opinion by the Bearer of this be pleased to send it by post - If you could procure your [struck: Atty] Genl. or any Lawyer of Eminence to add a concurrence with your opinion It would confer an additional obligation - You will retain the laws for your own use ~ [address leaf] Mr Burr * NORTHAMPTON.
