Beard & May-…13th and 14th March, 1855… Will be Sold at Auction, at Banks Arcade, Magazine Street, in the City of New Orleans…" Catalogue of slaves, listed by families, individually described: "No. 1 field hand, fine axman, sawyer and hewer"; "nimble of foot in the dance"; "good seamstress, house servant, nurse and cook." Beard was the largest slave auctioneer in New Orleans.
